Earlier this week, a judge placed former Haiti president Jean-Bertrand Aristide under house arrest while authorities investigate allegations of Aristide’s involvement in corruption, money laundering, and drug trafficking, as Caribbean360 reported.
The investigation stems from claims that Aristide’s government and political allies embezzled hundreds of millions of dollars while he was president from 2001 to 2004. Around 30 family members and former officials from Aristide’s administration are implicated in the case, reported AFP.
In August, authorities issued an arrest warrant for Aristide after he failed to answer a summons to appear in court, in connection to the current investigation.
